Say NO to Ohio House Bill 8

House Bill 8 - "Parents' Bill of Rights"

Ohio House Bill 8 could lead to teachers and other school personnel having to out students to their families, even if the disclosure of that information could lead to abuse, abandonment or neglect. H. B. 8 is currently in the Ohio House Primary and Secondary Education Committee. It has received sponsor, proponent and opponent testimony.

You can help stop this bill from becoming law: Contact members of the committee and tell them to vote NO on this harmful legislation! You can also prepare testimony to submit or deliver in-person when opponent testimony is scheduled.

Ohio House Bill 8 would require public schools to:
  • Require school districts to provide parents with a notice about and opportunity to review "sexually explicit instruction materials" and provide alternative instruction upon request
  • Prohibit school personnel from encouraging a student to withhold from a parent information concerning the student's health or wellbeing, even if the school personnel suspects that disclosing this information could lead to abuse, abandonment or neglect
  • Notify parents about school-provided healthcare services and notify parents about changes to the health services provided to their children
