Job Title: GSA Network Coordinator Reports to: Executive Director Hours: Full-Time
The GSA Network Coordinator is responsible for managing the GSA Network, Kaleidoscope’s network of “Genders and Sexualities Alliance” (GSA) clubs in Ohio. The GSA Network Coordinator accomplishes this by facilitating the development of GSAs in Ohio middle and high schools, supporting the growth and stability of existing GSAs, and recruiting new schools to the network. The GSA Network Coordinator is responsible for supervising KYC’s Youth Leadership Council and supporting the council’s production of special events, including the Other Prom and Ohio GSA Summits. Approximately twenty percent of the GSA Network Coordinator’s time supports KYC’s afterschool program in the Youth Center.
The GSA Network Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director.
The GSA Network Coordinator should have the following skills and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in social service, education or social justice field, or equivalent combination of education and experience with social justice or youth organizing.
The ability to engage, supervise, organize and empower youth across many economic, social, and racial identities to be effective advocates and leaders.
The ability to work independently and to create and deliver effective programs.
Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth development, adultism, and intersectional identity.
Commitment to KYC’s goals and mission.
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and some weekends.
Ability to pass a criminal and a Bureau of Motor Vehicles background check.
Have access to reliable automobile transportation.
Seek out, adapt, and utilize training and curriculum for youth, school staff, and GSA advisors to support the development of effective GSAs and youth leadership.
Provide consultation and education to teachers, administrators and other youth-serving adults regarding the needs of and best practices for working with LGBTQ youth and GSAs.
Engage in outreach and recruiting activities such as contacting school administrators, arranging site visits to schools, and attending GSA meetings.
Create and/or facilitate forums for youth and adults in the Network to connect with one another to share best practices for GSAs and supporting LGBTQ youth leadership.
Gather, curate, and archive resources for and about LGBTQ youth and GSAs.
Recruit, train, and manage adult volunteers who support Network programming.
Plan and establish goals for the development of the Network for each academic year, and assist in seeking funding for programming.
Develop and maintain participation and evaluation data for Network programming to inform internal planning and to provide outcome data to funders and the community.
Youth Leadership Council Supervision:
Act as a guide, coach, and mentor to youth contacting or involved in the GSA Network.
Facilitate regular meetings of the Youth Leadership Council and coordinate continued planning and implementation outside of and in addition to meetings.
Coordinate and support youth leaders in planning and implementing social and educational events such as GSA Summits, the Other Prom, Pride activities, Bar-B-Queer, Youth Service Day, National Coming Out Day, and Day of Silence.
Act as a voice of Kaleidoscope Youth Center with regard to local, state, regional, and national initiatives effecting LGBTQ youth and LGBTQ youth advocacy.
Act as an advocate for youth leaders and anti-adultism in historically adult spaces.
With support from the Development & Marketing Manager, engage the local, state, regional, and national communities via printed materials, blogs, and social media.
Represent Kaleidoscope and the Network at community forums, resource fairs, speaking engagements, fundraisers, and collaborative meetings.
Youth Center Support:
Support the afterschool program and Center Program Manager, including providing supervision of youth during weekday programming hours and special events/field trips.
Other duties as assigned.
The GSA Network Coordinator is a full-time position. Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include 15 days of paid time off and eligibility for health and life insurance benefits.
