OUR MISSION To work in partnership with young people in Central Ohio to create safe and empowering spaces for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and Ally youth through advocacy, education, support, and community engagement. Founded in 1994, Kaleidoscope Youth Center (KYC) is a Central Ohio based non-profit organization serving LGBTQ+ and ally youth ages 12-20. Our vision is for youth across the spectrums of sexual orientation and gender identity to live healthy, whole lives with acceptance and freedom from oppression.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Executive Director has overall responsibility for operational and financial management of the organization and is responsible for carrying out the strategic priorities of the Center as determined by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will be a strong and collaborative leader with a proven track record in fundraising, financial management, programming and operational supervision. The Executive Director will be the face of the organization and will possess excellent written and oral communications along with creativity and relationship building.
Leadership • To implement the strategic goals and objectives of the organization. • To provide direction and strong leadership toward the achievement of the Center’s mission, strategy and annual goals. • Oversee the development of the Center’s programming and ensure it meets the vision, mission and long range goals of the Center. • Create and maintain a working partnership with the Board of Directors on strategic planning, policy development, human resources oversight, fund development, and financial management. • Foster a collaborative work environment and demonstrate strong team building acumen. • Ensure a safe and inclusive space for all youth, staff, volunteers, and board members. • Proactively cultivate key relationships through outreach and collaboration to enhance service offerings and funding; and to increase awareness of the organization. • Represent the Center and promote its mission and vision within the community at large. • Be comfortable with public speaking, delivering presentations and interviews.
Fundraising and Development • Assume ultimate accountability for securing resources needed to support the Center’s mission and strategic plan. • Oversee development and execution of fundraising and marketing activities, including new and existing campaigns, fundraising events and donor cultivation activities. • Identify, develop and submit applications and funding proposals for local, state and national grant opportunities. Financial Management • Ensure adherence to the Center’s financial policies and procedures. Make sound financial recommendations to the Board as needed. • Prepare financial reports and provide updates regularly at Board meetings. • Develop and monitor Center budgets. Submit annual budget to Board of Directors for approval. • Secure and preserve all assets and ensure all expenditures have proper authorization/approval. • Provide for proper fiscal record-keeping, reporting, and auditing. • Submit financial reports or statements to the Treasurer and/or Board of Directors as appropriate or as required. • Ensure compliance with funding sources and regulatory requirements. • Analyze and implement income strategies and cost saving measures.
Administration • Recruit, orient, train, and supervise staff/volunteers/interns, pursuant to organizational policy and procedures. • Motivate staff and volunteers in accomplishing responsibilities and goals through empowerment and teamwork. • Effectively manage multiple priorities and complex projects in stressful situations. • Implement Board-approved policies and suggests new policies and processes to the Board. • Ensure proper and legal hiring and termination procedures; ensure supervision and evaluation of all staff and volunteers. • Ensure that job descriptions are developed, performance evaluations are held, and sound human resources practices are in place. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s Degree in business management, social sciences, or related fields. Master’s degree preferred. • Prior experience as an Executive Director or similar leadership role. • Experience working in a nonprofit organization with a Board of Directors preferred. • Proven fundraising and development experience. • Demonstrated capabilities leading teams. • Experience working with a diverse community and building strong cultures within organizations. • Exceptional oral and written communication skills. • Demonstrated ability in public speaking and interpersonal relations. • Extensive knowledge of LGBTQ programs and issues impacting youth and the community. Ability to effectively articulate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer issues. • Solid financial skills and GAAP understanding.
